“Layering is key to the looks” advised Terry, from layer to create great velvety skin which was showcased at Balmain or layering lip stick and gloss to get great textures shown at House of Holland. Terry also added that lash lines get a rich modern feel think Bridget Bardot, and old favourites such lip liner will be your new best friend; although Terry believes lip liner never went out of fashion.

Now, I am what you call a ‘Mascara’ Gal, and the bigger and more dramatic they are, the better! (It may be a ‘Cardiff thing’ as I have been informed – we like glamour apparently) So, I thought I’d welcome a new mascara with open arms, although I’m a little bit addicted to the Bobbi Brown Extreme Party Mascara, and the Clinique bottom lash Mascara.

The colourful tube denotes a playful tone, meaning that it would be good for a night on the tiles, but I tried mine on a Wednesday morning where I would do nothing but head to the office and stay there, but I explained earlier my love for lashes.

I was a little taken back by the oversized wand, which in fact has little bristles that are of a plastic/rubber form, not like a classic mascara wand. I found it to be difficult to apply to the top lashes, (mainly as I’m lacking the lashes it needed to coat) but after a few applications I found that the product built, but non-Clumpily which is a plus. The bottom lashes were difficult as I couldn’t get to the lash line, not good if you’re in a rush, but great if you’re heading on a night out, as it will give you precision lashes that are uber OTT!

Overall, this mascara would give you the dramatic effect lashes it boasts, but only after a few applications. Stay away if you are lacking lashes in the beginning, you will end up with more deposited on your skin than your lashes.

Shine on will be out in August, but was used during the Autumn/Winter 2011 fashion week’s by top hair dresser and Bumble creative artist, Neil Moodie and the Bumble team. Used as a finishing spray, this product will offer you the great salon shine that we see on every hair advert. Now, i’m never one to buy into adverts, but I actually tried this product, and my dull, split ended brunette hair was brought back to life with a few spritz. Sat in the office on a friday afternoon, my hair lacked the certain va va voom that would help in taking me from office to bar in 10 minutes flat when the clock hit six o’clock.

Don’t judge the picture taking skills, as it was a friday afternoon (explained earlier) and I was taking the pictures myself – lets add a small applause for myself.

But, my love for sunshine has distracted me from my original post and for this I apologise, it is based around Summer sunshine though. Aintree Ladies Day caught my attention as I was scrolling through the Daily Mail website (this happens once in a blue moon. Kidding) I found myself quietly cringing in disbelief at the outfits of choice for many of the attendants.

From mini-skirts, to maxi dresses, each lady was dressed to the nines displaying their best frocks for the summer sunshine and the chance to feature in the Daily Mail of course. With more than 150,000 people expected to attend the three-day-event and watched by 600 million people worldwide this is one of the biggest horse racing events in Europe. Galliano scandal

It would seem that the pressure of being creative director at one of the world’s biggest fashion houses causes you to act in strange ways…but i don’t think we can blame the job, can we?

It has recently been confirmed that Gibraltar born John Galliano has been fired from the House of Dior, due to allegations of racism and anti-Semitic marks against a couple last December. The designer will stand trial for his actions, but completely denies any anti-Semitic claims.

The designer claimed to “Love Hitler” in a recent video that has been released, showing Galliano under the influence of alcohol, shouting racism remarks about the Jewish community.

With the recent backlash against the designer, many people associated in one way or another with the brand have spoken out. Oscar Winner Natalie Portman is the face of Miss Dior, and has “Expressed her disgust” in the way that Galliano has acted, and will not be associated in any way with the award-winning designer.

The latest celebrity to condemn Galliano’s scandal is fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who has made it clear  that he is unhappy in the way he acted. Saying that he is, “furious that it could happen” he then went on to say, “It is a horrible image for fashion, because they think that every designer and everything in fashion is like this.”

But, Galliano has at least one friend. Italian Vogue Editor Franca Sozzani has jumped to his defence saying, “He was clearly provoked and filmed while obviously inebriated.”

Facing trial in May, the British designer faces huge fines, and a six month prison sentence if found guilty, and all of this is alongside his newly broken career.

So, who has seen the new Natalie Portman film, Black Swan? If you haven’t, you need to! Those who have, how much did you love it?

The intensely dark film, was not what I imagined, and have to say it isn’t really for the faint hearted (but don’t let me put you off!) I would also recommend not going to see it with a parent, due to the highly sexual bedroom scenes!

But, from the psychological thriller, ballerina beauty has blossomed. Grazia have dedicated a whole feature to it, so have a look!

I was truly inspired and have decided to showcase a bun…to ease me in. As I’m not sure I can force myself into ballet lessons just yet! I would love to show you a picture, but I think I would put myself to shame considering it is already falling out with every word I type.

It may be pushing 45 degrees outside, but I have still had the opportunity to see all the major landmarks and tourist points…this is obviously alongside my interview for the Livery Guild Travel Scholarship. Today I had the pleasure of meeting two fashion designers that are based in Dubai, but that are very different to each other.

Pepper by Uma is a very successful line within Dubai and claims to be influenced by Western society, but with a Middle Eastern outlook . As a very successful business woman Uma also produces and hosts her own fashion TV show that is shown all over the UAE, and is one of the most successful television shows in the Middle East.

The second designer was kind enough to let me join her for Iftar (breaking of fast for Ramadan), which was such a great experience and was a great insight into the local culture of Dubai. Homa is not only a designer, she is a personal stylist. Born and raised in Dubai, she claims that all her inspiration is found within herself. Her main collection and focus is designing Abayas (traditional Arab dress for women).

Which are not as plain as one may think. From creating it specifically for the client, to a ready-to-wear collection, Homa is a well-known designer within Dubai, with her collections and business growing each season, she is hoping to take her designs to Europe and also promote her Western range; which are a range of haute couture evening dresses.

My two weeks here are coming to an end, and they have gone way to fast for my liking. The quiet days and busy evenings have been different to life in Wales but have found that adapting to the lifestyle is very easy, even during Ramadan. But i guess you really can’t complain when you have more than 10 malls within easy reach, and one of them has an aquarium…how amazing!

This time around (for those of you who don’t know, I previously completed a month placement at Stylist over Easter) I am working with the beauty department, and although I am sitting in a hot office, that resembles nothing of the glamourous offices that you may see on the silver screen, I am actually enjoying my time here.

I am without a desk and telephone this time around, but the upsides means I have made a multitude of useful contacts which has led to a bag full of beauty products on my first day. But the glass shelves are where my job went a little downhill on the glamour side.

I spent, literally seven hours searching for glass shelves for a photo-shoot we have tomorrow. I found some in the end, for those of you that were on the edge of your seat biting your nails. This job really is the things dreams are made of, no truthfully.

I am fortunately working under Annabel Meggeson who writes for huge named publications such as Elle, The Guardian and of course Stylist.

I hope this is enough to keep you actively glued to the computer screen for one day. As the week progresses, I will try and upload more stories, and i’m also sorry about the lack of pictures, I will attempt to add some shortly.
